Development Squad athletes Receive Young Slider of the Year Award 28th June, 2007 British Skeleton World Class Development Squad members Andy Wood and Donna Creighton were awarded the Ice Sports Track Foundation (ISTF) Young Slider of the Year Award for the season 2006-07, on June 22nd at the University of Bath. The award is intended to recognise up-and-coming athlete achievement in the sport of skeleton, and provide a token of financial support towards the costs of training and competition. The athletes were each presented a cheque for £250 by founder Director of the ITSF, Tony Wallington (pictured).
Andy Wood and Donna Creighton were nominated for the award by British Skeleton in honour of their outstanding achievements during the this season, in which Andy became the first British male to win the overall America’s Cup title (winning a medal in every race), gained selection for the World Cup squad, and produced two top 20 placings on his debut on the top level circuit. Donna Creighton demonstrated massive improvement during her second full season in the sport, achieving 4th place in the America’s Cup series, and showing tremendous start potential, beating the rest of the world at several of the venues she competed at this year. Like Andy, Donna also won selection to the World Cup squad at the end of the season, achieving top twenty placings in both outings with the squad, showing her potential to be competitive at the highest level.
About the ITSF:
Ice Track Sports Foundation (ITSF) is a non-profit making company. The ITSF was established with the aim of utilising the bobsleigh and skeleton simulated start at the University of Bath to raise income in order to assist with the cost of track maintenance and accumulating funds that can be granted to athletes as sports awards. In addition, the marketing and sales activity of ITSF helps to promote the sports of bobsleigh and skeleton within the UK.
The ITSF have been involved in the following events:
· Bobsleigh and skeleton experiences - given to individuals and groups as presents, rewards or incentives.
· Larger events integrated with the University of Bath programmes, such as the 2006 British Transplant Games.
· Team building and performance development – programmes designed and delivered by the ITSF with a client centre approach. |
