Andi Schmid The Performance Director Role Formally the British Skeleton Coaching Director, Andi Schmid filled the role of Performance Director after the Torino Winter Olympic Games in 2006. He is responsible for the strategic development of British Skeleton's Performance Pathway and leadership of its implementation. Securing funding from national agencies such as UK Sport, Sportscotland, and TASS is a key element of the role.
Andi also manages British Skeleton's partnership with the Home Country Sports Institutes who provide support services such physiotherapy, medicine, strength and conditioning to athletes. He is also responsible for managing and integrating the operational elements of the Performance Pathway Programmes including coaching, sports science and medicine support, National Squad and Team selection.
Career Background Andi brings a wealth of experience and is one of the most successful bob-skeleton athletes in history. Winning the 1993 World Championship in La Plagne in 1993 was the highlight of his career.
He was appointed Head National Coach for British Skeleton for the 2002 Olympic season and guided Alex Coomber to the Bronze medal in Salt Lake City. After the Games, Andreas returned to his business consultancy company, but remained a part time advisor to the British Skeleton.
In November 2004, Andreas was appointed as British Skeleton's first Director of Coaching on a part time advisor basis and following the sucess of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games he was appointed Performance Director for British Skeleton filling Simon Timson's shoes. |
