Shelley Rudman wins the overall World Cup title after her third place in
Calgary, Canada gave her enough points to overtake second placed Marion
Thees of Germany. Anja Huber, also of Germany was third.
Needing 7 more points than Thees going into the final race of the 8 race
series, Shelley put down a solid first run which placed her joint second
with Melissa Hollingsworth of Canada and Anja Huber of Germany. Thees after
a poor run found herself in 11th place.
Leading the pack after the first run was Lizzy Yarnold who would go onto
win the race, but it was all eyes on Shelley whose second run was enough to
put her in the bronze medal position in the race and win the overall title,
the first time in 10 years that a British Woman had been crowned the
champion.
Speaking after the race Shelley said ” I’m over the moon with today’s
result, I’m dedicating my win to my mum and dad.
“Dad suffered a brain hemorrhage this time last year, so it’s been a
hard year for us and my dad really wanted me to win the overall title and I
said I’d try.”
She added: “I’d like to thank Richard Bromley for his sled support this
week, our team physio Kay for sorting my back out, my parents, Kristan’s
parents, Mark Campbell, Kristan and my daughter Ella, and the British
Skeleton team “.
Shelley and the team now have a few days off before the World Championships
in Lake Placid, New York State.
